How to reopen the last closed tab (Firefox)

Courtesy of lifehacker, today I learned how to reopen the last tab I closed in Firefox. Perfect for those overly zealous command-W moments! And how do you do it? Why, command-shift-T! Nicely cognitively adjacent to command-T, which opens a new (blank) tab. (Bonus: their article also mentions command-L, which moves focus to the address bar — I didn’t know that one either. Hurray, yet another click I don’t have to make any more!)

I didn’t know about the Control*-shift-T option – I’d been using the TabMix plugin for some of my extreme groupings. (In windows, alt-D is also a shortcut to get to the address bar.)

Huh, I thought Safari was more popular on the Mac.

You may also enjoy a few settings to pare down its memory usage, which after long sessions with many tabs can become painfully large, at least for me on my windows machine.

Ooh! Now I wish I knew how to do that in Opera.

    Follow up.

The way to do this in Opera is Ctrl-Alt-Z… The mnemonic is that Ctrl-Z is ‘Undo’.

(Sorry about the Opera fixation. If Mozilla zoomed as nicely as Opera I would use it. Now, if only Opera were as _stable_ as Mozilla)

This is great — I post about something that I learned and get a list of more fun new things from you all!

Jim: I hadn’t heard of TabMix before… thanks!

Geoff: Thanks for the pointer! I haven’t had Firefox memory problems on my Mac (that I’ve noticed)… yet, anyway. Good to know.

Iain: Cool… next time I’m using my home linux machine (woefully un-upgraded, it doesn’ t have any Firefox versions — but I did become fond of Opera on it), I’ll try Ctrl-Alt-Z!
