Today I got my first taste of “nerdcore hip-hop” (thanks Jon!). This stuff is absolutely fantastic… and I’m not normally a hip-hop fan! I’m a sucker for clever lyrics, I guess. :) Here are some of my initial favorites, which you might also enjoy:
- “Kill -9” (lyrics: see the title of this post) and
“So Much Drama in the Ph.D.” (lyrics)
by Monzy (CS grad student at Stanford) - “ASCII Antics” (alphabetized lyrics)
by MC Plus+ (CS grad student at Purdue) - “It Is Pitch Dark” (lyrics: yep, “you are likely to be eaten by a…”) and
“This Old Man” (lyrics)
by MC Frontalot (not a grad student)

(Knew it already.)Nerdcore can be fun! MC Frontalot has a song called Yellow Laser Beam that I remember liking quite a lot.
In related concepts, you should check out MC Hawking if you haven’t heard him before.

(Learned something new!)The Frontalot show was the only show I’ve been to where I was frisked for weapons going in the door.
And if you haven’t yet, you should also seek out Alpinekat’s CERN Rap about the LHC.

(Knew it already.)Thanks for the specific MP3 links! I went to an awesome nerdcore concert last year. Frontalot & Optimus Rhyme were great, but MC Lars stole the show if you ask me. He’s more of laptop rap than nerdcore, jokes around all sorts of nerdy stuff not just CS. His song Hipster Girl is totally my favorite. Check out the songs on his website: http://www.mclars.com/audio.html

(Learned something new!)This is only tangentially related, but I recommend checking out Ernie & Bert rapping to the hardcore Mosh Out Posse.
